Our Pathway
Our Kaimirimiri Practitioner Pathway is designed to provide a safe space for tauira to grow their experience, mātauranga and tikanga as kaimirimiri.
It offers the structure and support for our tauira to thrive, and the flexibility to learn and grow at their own pace.
Woven through every stage is the practice of being held and holding others. Regular one-to-one kaitiaki sessions and rōpū reflective sessions walk alongside you, and as you move through the pathway the tuakana, teina relationship deepens, from being supported, to supporting those coming through behind you.

Tuatahi
Beginning the journey

Indigenous Knowledges of Rongoā Māori Taumata Tahi

500 hours volunteering at the Hine Rei koha community clinic, wānanga and kaupapa

Attend regular roopū reflective sessions

Opportunity to work in Hine Rei Clinic at set hourly rate once 300 hours is completed and support Rongoā Māori Lead has been given.

Tuarua
Deepening your practice, growing as tuakana

Indigenous Knowledges of Rongoā Māori Taumata Rua in-person and virtual wānanga

300 hours volunteering at the Hine Rei koha community clinic, wānanga and kaupapa

Step into a tuakana role in support of tauira tuatahi

Tuatoru
Leading, guiding and holding others

Indigenous Knowledges of Rongoā Māori Taumata Toru in-person and virtual wānanga

400 hours volunteering at the Hine Rei koha community clinic, wānanga and kaupapa

Fill a tuakana role in support of tauira tuatahi, tuarua and tuatoru

Attend regular one-to-one kaitiaki sessions

Attend regular rōpū reflective sessions

Hold kaitiaki kōrero with select tuatahi tauira

How long does the pathway take?
Tauira move at their own pace, and the time it takes depends on your commitment to training hours and kaupapa. In our experience this is typically a 3–5 year pathway.
When can I begin offering Mirimiri/Romiromi to others?
To offer Mirimiri/Romiromi under the mana of Hine Rei, you first complete our practitioner pathway. There are opportunities within the pathway to earn income as a Hine Rei Kaimirimiri in our clinic.
I don't live in Tāmaki can I still complete the pathway?
We require anyone on the pathway to attend all our in-person wānanga here in Tāmaki Makaurau as well as attend as many community clinics as possible to allow for guided support form our Rongoā Māori lead. There may be options to build you hours through at home practice however this requires further discussion with us so please reach out.
Are there funded options to cover the cost of the wānanga?
We are working on securing funding and are happy to work with any organisations interested in financially supporting their whānau or kaimahi to participate in our pathway.
